Response to Frankenstein

There are many interesting parts in the book Frankenstein. The book started really slow by introducing Victor’s family stories. Then suddenly, with several chapters, the story jumps quickly to the birth of monster and the story after it. Another surprising part is at really end, readers will finally realize the story was told by the captain Walton. There are many gothic elements in the book. First, the setting of the story happened in European countries. Victor’s home is in Geneva, then he goes to college Ingolstadt. The place where the story taking place is a perfect match for gothic.  The characters, appear in the book, also become the elements of the gothic. The monster is such a typical evil for the gothic novel. He is not appeared to be evil, but grow to what he is at the end. All the stuff that he did is following his own rules and his own reason. There is also Elizabeth, who can be recognize as the virginal maiden in the book. About the story, our protagonist faced the horror and terror when he is against the monster. He afraid of the appearance of the monster he made. He afraid of people think he is crazy when he knows the monster killed his brother. He afraid that monster will kill him at the wedding night. He afraid more and more when he goes deeper and deeper into the “castle”. The story itself also close to the gothic. It mainly talked about a scientist bring back death to life. At the time, the “scientist” are probably as mysterious as “bring the death to live”.
